John works as a Director, Writer, Producer, Cameraman, and Editor on a diverse array of films that have taken him from the bustling red carpets of Hollywood to the remotest beaches of Indonesia and the Solomon Islands. John's first broadcast credit was on the BBC's Dragons Alive series (2004) as a cameraman. He went on to develop, write and direct projects for European production companies ScienceVision Filmproduktion, Skyland Productions, and Blue Paw Artists commissions from ORF UNIVERSUM and their international broadcast partners. Shows include: The Canary Islands - Life at the Limit (Grand Prix, Festival de L'oiseu), Making of an Ancient Forest (multiple awards and Emmy Award® Nominated), Styria: Region Unlimited, Behind National Park 360º, Wild Bavaria. Hudson River Wild (Skyland Productions / Ran Film for Smithsonian Channel, ORF UNIVERSUM, ARTE) is John's feature directorial debut-a film that took 4 challenging years to make due to the pandemic. John also works with government and non-government agencies producing short films on topics that range from marine debris, and deep ocean exploration, to habitat restoration, and from sea turtle conservation to large mammal entanglement rescue. His recent films Discover Wonder: The Octopus Garden (NOAA / National Marine Sanctuary Foundation) won Best Short at the International Ocean Film Festival 2021, and The Pacific Leatherback (NOAA's Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary) is on permanent theater exhibit at the Monterey Bay Exploration Center in Santa Cruz, California, In Hollywood, John's work includes filming for Oprah Winfrey, Jon Peters, and John Goldstone, filming behind the scenes on feature films, editing music videos, and creating social media content for actors and performers. He is a member of BAFTA (British Association of Film and Television Arts), the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, and the International Documentary Association (IDA).
