Ben Dickson graduated from the Canberra College of Advanced Education in 1990, sub-majoring in Media and Scriptwriting. He was a fan of Horror and Science Fiction films and made short films and videos for a hobby. They were made mainly in Stromlo Forest in Canberra in the 1980's with friends, including Robert Kasumovic, the brother of Actor/Crewperson Zlatko Kasumovic. He studied Media with Producer and Actor Andrew Higgie, Jane Rotsey, a relation of Midnight Oil's guitarist Martin Rotsey, and Scriptwriter Michael Miller. During his studies at the CCAE he made a short film based on the Stephen King short story Night Surf. It was called Last Day (1987). Ben forewent a career in films after his video projects went missing and other things derailed him. In the Nineties he studied English Literature at the Australian National University with Actress Lucy Taylor and Musicians Pip Branson and Nick Craft. He attended a number of film conventions, meeting famous SF/Horror Directors, Scriptwriters, Actors, and Actresses. He was also involved with the sale of Horror and SF film merchandise in a couple of shops he was involved with. In 2008, he entered the world of filmmaking again as an Actor. He also came up with the design concepts for the film posters used for the film 'Jumper (2008)'. The concepts (the clock and pyramid) were mentioned online in connection with a film idea about his own life before 'Jumper' was released. However, it's unsure whether it was a coincidence or not that the ideas were used. Ben found acting difficult, and preferred to write and direct his own short films. His film 'The Wallet: Part One' was screened at the Sydney Kino Kabaret 'House of Horrors' screenings in 2011. He also enjoys writing short stories, playing music, and computer art as hobbies. He supports animal liberation, third world, and environmental causes.
