Luis Emilio Lopez Rodriguez was born in 1974 in Matanzas, Cuba, to Mirtha Lelis Rodriquez, a writer/radio producer, and Wenceslao Lopez, an elementary teacher. Emilio showed an early interest in music and languages in his younger years. He speaks six foreign languages and writes/produces music through his music production company, Emilio Lopez Music. In 1999, Emilio relocated to Sweden. He studied music at Malmö Jazz Institute where he learned the piano, guitar, and vocals. A few years later he met filmmaker Jarno Lee Vinsencius and started a long term collaboration in film. Together they have produced several music videos and feature documentaries. In the year 2019, Emilio received his first accolade as a filmmaker for his feature film production "Donde Vas tu", a feature documentary about Cuban folk music. "Donde Vas tu" has won several international film awards.
