“It was only when I realized how actors have the power to move people that I decided to pursue acting as a career.” Cate Blanchet graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1992 and immediately began to develop as a theater actress with several performances and awards in the field, a training and experience that gave her a wide range of tools that she would later exploit in her film career. Her debut was in the short film "Parklands" (1996) by Kathryn Millard and "Paradise Road" (1997) by Bruce Baresford was her first feature film, sharing the cast with Glenn Close and Frances McDorman. Just a year later she won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Actress for her performance in "Elizabeth", directed by Shekhar Kapur, becoming a popular and critically acclaimed actress.
